Nishimura Tea Garden was originally not a tea farm. In the late Edo period they started out with various sorts of farming, adapting to demands of the time. They built their first tea factory in 1947, and in 1965 stopped all other farming and focused just on tea. In 1966 they also built a new tea factory, focusing just on aracha (partially processed tea) that they would sell to wholesalers for final processing. In 1973 they finally transitioned to doing the final processing of the tea themselves and have continued on that path since. In 2018 Nishimura Tea Garden's teas were certified as Tokyo Metropolitan Government Regional Specialty Products.
