According to Hiroki Murakami, the fourth-generation head of the farm, the exact time his family began cultivating tea is unknown, but it was his great-grandfather who built their first processing facility in the late 19th century.
Based in the mountainous Yoshiwara area of Shizuoka City—famous for its sea of clouds—the family produces about 2 tons of tea annually (first and second flush). Mr. Murakami began producing black tea a few years ago, and his teas have since won numerous awards in Japan.
